Decorating With Books: Latina Bibliophile Aesthetic Tips

Decorating your home by prominently displaying your books is all the rage these days, but I’ll argue that it’s always the perfect time to showcase your beloved libros. Looking to decorate your space with books and get that perfect bibliophile aesthetic, but not quite sure how to start? Then this post is for you. I spend a lot of time reading and curating books. And, if I’m super honest, I spend more time than I should organizing and decorating with them too (sometimes a mama just needs a break, am I right?!).

If you’re thinking, “Back it up mujer, what is a bibliophile aesthetic,” let me take a beat before I share some of my favorite tips for thoughtfully including books into your interior design. A bibliophile is basically anyone who loves books (like a lot) and collects them. Sound like you? Bibliophile aesthetic is a type of interior design decor that incorporates bookish style to create a life where you live authentically and beautifully with your books.

With or without a fancy title, I know many of us have a healthy habit of buying one too many reads. So before you start giving your tomes away or using them to hold the door open, let me share a few ways you can live beautifully with them.

Let’s start at the beginning, only buy books that make your corazón smile. Seriously, you work too hard to spend money on titles that you’re not really interested in or that you don’t want to keep for a few years (at least). What you read is what makes you uniquely you - don’t be afraid of what you love.

Con calma cariño, creating a Latinx bookstagram worthy interior takes time. Carefully build your list and your interiors by allowing yourself time. Keep in mind that every book tells its own special story and how the book came into your stewardship is part of the fun. Trust you’ll like a book more when you remember you picked it up at that amazing independent Latinx-owned bookstore on your last trip. I get it, sometimes when I’m decorating a new space or revamping an existing space I just want to be done already. But, consciously creating spaces that feature cherished books takes a minute.

Once you have a few titles you adore, don’t be afraid to weave ALL aspects of yourself into the space you’re decorating. Lovingly combine color, art, candles (or anything else that makes you happy) AND your books. There are no real rules about what should pair with your books or how to display them.

A cautionary note…I know I just said there are no rules, but I would be remiss if I didn’t share that sometimes less is more. A little space for the eye and the spirit to breathe is good, particularly when it comes to books and dynamic interiors.

Okay, now that I’ve shared with you tips I use when I decorate my interiors, will you share with me some photos of your favorite bookish interiors? Do me a favor, sí? When you send your image will you let me know if I can share it with this community? I’m dying to see what you’ve created.

Happy decorating, amigas!
